Default How does this work?

I'm not sure what forum this should be in, but since it has nothing to do with computers or Guild Wars I guess it should be here. Thankful if a mod can correct where I put it.

I'm just wondering how websites generate members of said site, such as Guild Portal and forums in general, without actually directly affecting the URL.

Cheers for the answer.

Yes that was quite badly worded...

How can people log into these kinds of websites, when the URL doesn't change at all?

I really don't understand how I can make this question clear myself to be honest.

the url is the genreal addy to the site so that will never change...it will get different extensions on the end if a user logs in however...that is pretty much just the path to the database...im not sure if this helps at all, since im confused myself still.

they do it by transducing the photovoltaic charge of a neutron beam counter rotated into a harmonized waveform.

URLs dont change, they are the equivalent to a house "name" on the internet.

I think this should be either in the Q&A section or Tech Forum section perhaps...

Less fail Tyla, less fail.

I think you log into a server which hosts all the members and the whole domain. I could be completely wrong too but I seem to remember the whole Core and Elite Guru thing being so that they could upgrade their servers.

I still don't understand what you are saying. How could members of a forum change the url? Unless of course they hacked the site...

He's asking how a person can login to a website without the URL changing.

example:
to all of us the url is http://www.guildwarsguru.com even though we are all logged in.

Answer:
Cookies.

why would logging in change the URL? thats just bizarre.

URL tells the client where they are/want to go thats all.

I think the question is how did people find Guru.....

I found it via GuildWars.com, was just looking at the fansite listings and this was what I clicked on

I liked what I found so I stuck with it.

If your asking how sites get listed on Google or other search engines it can be as simple as sending in an email to your site randomly getting hit by a web crawler.

It really isn't, Steam for example uses a different URL for each userid page. It just depends on the medium if you do it or not. :3

Cookies or sessions are being made/started.

A URL is the path of a certain webpage.
